iVolunteer

An event board where organizations and volunteers connect

Roles:

Stakeholder Interviews
UI Design
Frontend Development

Period: 2022 (Redesign & Prototype)
Duration: 2 weeks

Period: 2014 (Original Project)
Duration: 5-6 weeks

 Problem

It is hard to find and choose volunteer opportunities in the Philippines.

There are numerous non-profits and organizations needing help (and little to no funding),
and enthusiastic volunteers both without a way to find each other

Research

Methodology: Interviews with the core iVolunteer group

The group is made up of volunteers themselves who also have experience creating events.

Findings

  • It was hard to choose between VOs

  • It was hard to find information about specific VOs

  • Some VOs were already beyond capacity

Goal

Connect volunteers and organizations

Registration and Signup Flow

Previous Design (2014)

This was the design I previously handed off after frontend development using customized Booststrap CSS

2022 Redesign

I performed a refresh of the existing design as an exercise to discover more of Figma’s prototyping and autolayout features. Design changes included:

  • Practicing branding by redesigning the logo to incorporate the theme of volunteerism, uniting several different individuals through a common cause.

  • Updated color scheme to add highlights to the minimal design

  • Updated typography to distinguish different blocks of information.

  • Organized layout depending on hierarchy of blocks of information

  • Highlighted the use of imagery from user-generated content, while still displaying fallbacks.

  • Surfacing the social aspect of volunteering and donation-giving

What I would change

To be able to further improve the value of the platform I would invite both organizations and volunteers to discover deeper goals, motivations, and rewards for them to succeed in their volunteering search.
